What are the Best Budget Speaker Stands?

Monitor with Speakers and Stands

You’ve invested in the best quality speakers that your money can afford and are looking forward to relishing the crisp audio, ultimate bass, or fantastic surround sound effects of a decent pair of speakers, finally, right? Well not so fast, a high quality pair of speakers needs to be dovetailed with a good quality speaker stand.

Our favourite budget speaker stands are the Audioengine DS1 as a perfect desktop stand, the Duronic Stands for small speakers, the Sanus Adjustable Height Stands for their elegant aesthetics, and the Eono Premium Stands for integrity and vibration minimisation. The best speaker stands can minimise vibrations that distort the sound or carry unwanted noise outside of the area the speakers are located. The structural integrity of the stands depends on brand and price, and great stands can look aesthetically pleasing, and assist with cable management too.

The Audioengine DS1

Price: £35

DS1 Speakers

“A must buy for those with high quality desktop speakers who want to minimise vibrations to your desk and direct the sound for a noticeable audio quality improvement.”

In 2005 Audioengine was founded with a simple goal: Build a speaker that sounds great, is easy to set up and use, and that makes people want to listen to music every day. This naturally extended to a set of elegant speaker stands. The DS Speaker Stands give yet another upgrade to your desktop listening experience by both isolating the speakers from your vibration-prone desk, and angling them towards your ears. After testing these, we found they did a remarkable job in greatly minimising sound transmission to your office desk with a significant subjective improvement in the sound. On the down side, we do feel these are a little on the pricey side for what they are.

Duronic Speaker Stands

Price: £29

“We love how easy these were to assemble and the fact that they fit a great range of wireless or wired speakers, no matter the brand”

Founded in 2005 in the UK, Duronic is a family-run British and German brand. The Duronic SPS1022 offers two different ways to improve the sound quality of your speakers depending on the type of floor you have.

These speaker stands use spikes and pucks (spike shoes) as a method of coupling the speakers to the floor; this isolates the speaker from the floor/surface ensuring that any unnecessary vibration and resonance is reduced.

Alternatively, if you have a wooden floor that moves you can use the damping foam pads (instead of the spikes) to decouple the speaker stand from the floor. This ensures that the speaker acts “as one” with the floor and moves in sync with the floor’s minute movements. Decoupling prevents the speakers from jolting when the floor moves and limits any interruption to sound output.

We love how easy these were to assemble and the fact that they fit a great range of wireless or wired speakers, no matter the brand. They were also very sturdy and at the perfect listening height.

The Sanus Adjustable Height Stand

Price: £45

“Overall we love the adjustability and look of these stands, they would be a great addition to any living room.”

The Sanus Speaker stands are rich in style, highly functional and durable. Designed specifically for smaller speakers they can effortlessly support satellite and surround speakers. Height adjustable from 28″ to 38″, you can customise the position of these floor stands right at ear level for optimal performance.

The heavy cast iron bases provide excellent stability for your regular speakers. Furthermore, due to the monochromatic colours and the pure simple lines, these stands are aesthetically pleasing and balanced so they look great in any room. Overall we love the adjustability and look of these stands, they would be a great addition to any living room. However, we do feel that there are better options in terms of durability and vibration minimisation, but had to include based on the sleek aesthetics alone.

Eono Premium Speakers

Price: £63.99

“Whilst these are not your typical high-end stands as they come without brand recognition, these are genuinely great for price in terms of ease of functionality, adaptability and looks.”

The Eono speakers are an amazon own brand of height adjustable speakers. We found these speakers easy and quick to assemble and as a nice surprise they came with the correct machine screws to work with most ‘wireless speakers’. They look extremely neat with the cable run down through the tube. Of all of the stands we reviewed, these were the most sturdy and reliable. The stands come with a range of fittings for use with other speakers and both spikes and pads to adapt the bases. They are also adjustable for height and direction, the speaker cable is concealed in the stand. The fact that they are manoeuvrable with up to 360 degrees of adjustability and make it simple to adjust the height seem to just add to the overall pleasure. Whilst these are not your typical high-end stands due to the guaranteed quality and brand recognition, these are genuinely great for price in terms of ease of functionality, adaptability and looks.

No matter which set of speakers you choose, a great pair of speaker stands is a sound investment to minimise interference and resonances from your speakers, resulting in cleaner and more accurate sound reproduction. They also allow for precise speaker positioning, optimising the stereo image and enhancing the depth and dimensionality of your music. With properly positioned speakers on stands, you can revel in the rich, warm tones and intricate melodies of your vinyl records like never before, creating a truly immersive audio experience in the comfort of your own home.
